Fascination

Hey Angel, what is that up there on the wall?
I can't tell but it looks like it might be fun to play with.
How do we get it down?
I don't know. Hey, is it one of those thingys that fly around and we catch in windows?
Yeah, I think it might be one of those thingys.
Yep, it is!

Changes...

The choices for the current EtsyBloggers blog carnival hosted by Storybeader are:
1) What are your new year's goals for your blog and/or shop- OR -
2) How are you organizing your business for paying taxes?A CPA, DIY, not participating, other.

Since I am a CPA, I could give a long, boring answer to number 2 and I'd for sure cure anyone of insomnia! To avoid too much nodding off, I'm going to discuss goals and changes for my blog in 2009.
Angel, Isabella and Sadie will continue to help me blog this upcoming year, however, my main goal for 2009 is to bring more awareness to animal related issues. Raising money for animal charities is the reason BeadedTail was started so I plan on focusing more attention to this goal. I haven't quite figured out the best way to do this but it will happen. In our shop, we continue to find new things to make and create to also serve this purpose. In our BeadedTail shop, we had 34 sales and donated $407 to animal charities in 2008 and we hope to increase this in 2009. Thanks to all our customers!

In order to keep me sane during the next few months, I have started posting theme days which I can pre-schedule and prepare for in advance. This helps me focus on what I need to post so hopefully I don't miss any days when I'm buried in tax returns.
As always, I will try to provide posts that our visitors enjoy reading and in our shop my mom and I try to make jewelry that animal lovers enjoy wearing. If you have any suggestions or comments on anything we do, feel free to click on that "Contact" page listed at the top of this page and send me a note!

Stroll with Sadie!

Hey there everybuddy! Come on a stroll with me (and Mommy) around our neighborhood! Let's start by going into the woods on an old forest road - follow me this way!
Come on Mommy, hurry up!
Oh look, a deer! I'm only teasing Mommy, it's just me!
Mom, it's just a fuzzy tree. Do you really need a picture of that?
We're almost home so Mommy says I have to have my leash back on. She thinks that sign up there means something and that I'll see a real deer.
I always look for them and one of these times I'll see one and we'll see how far I can pull her!
We didn't see any deer today but we had a nice stroll and I hope you enjoyed coming with us!

Gimme Shelter Fundraising Event

Thanks to fellow blogger and animal lover Susan from West of Mars, I was made aware of an animal shelter in Canada, The Humane Society of Durham Region , that recently experienced a devastating fire which killed many animals and left the shelter in the process of becoming operational again. This is a horrible tragedy and since I have many Canadian visitors to my blog, I wanted to let you know of an event happening on January 17th to help raise funds for this shelter. If you're in the area, mark your calendars and help out this shelter in desperate need! There is also information on how to donate to help them on their website - click on the shelter name above.

The following was taken from Bravewords.com regarding this event:

On 18 December 2008, tragedy struck. A fire ripped through the Durham Region Humane Society in Oshawa, Ontario killing 140 animals sheltered there...a horrible end for what may have been the start to a bright future.

SPCA spokesperson Alison Cross said, "The facility was destroyed. Many animals lost their lives during the fire and it has been very traumatic for the staff and volunteers -- they spend every day trying to give these animals a second chance, and then to have something like this happen is just devastating."

Now, in a positive response to such a tragic event, the music community is coming forward to help out in the best way it can. Aptly named, "Gimme Shelter: A Rock n Roll Benefit for the Humane Society of Durham Region", musicians are lending a hand by playing for 8 hours of continuous music. The event will also host auctions of original artwork, music memorabilia, vouchers from local businesses and door prizes to raise money to help the Humane Society rebuild.

Already confirmed are: • classic rockers MOXY (ft. Russ Graham of the KILLER DWARFS) • pop icon Bob Segarini • 80s tribute band DA BOMB • MOVIN' ON • alt rockers THE SEVENATE • more bands to be announced shortly.

The event has been endorsed by the Humane Society of Durham Region and is being held at The Wing Shack Bar & Eatery, 1121 Dundas Street East, Whitby, Ontario on January 17th, 2009 from 6pm to 2am. Admission is a donation of $15.

Tortie Tuesday!

Today's Tortie lesson is to sit as rounded as you can yet show your tortieness from your front paw poking out from under your body to your nose to your back and ending on the tip of your tail!

And it's very important to always practice your big eyed innocent look - just in case!

Kitty Grass?

Mommy growed us this wheat grass in a pot. First of all, you'd think since Mommy is from Kansas she'd know this doesn't look like wheat.
And secondly, isn't grass something that cows eat?
Isabella, you try it first!

NOTE: Since so many are asking, we loved the grass! We don't eat much at one time so haven't had any problems with it coming back up, as some have pointed out in the comments. Turns out we are more like cows than we thought, we graze on it every now and again!

Friday Features

In 2009 I'm going to change things up on my blog a little. I'll still have plenty of posts about my furbabies but to make my schedule more consistent and manageable during tax season, I'm going to have certain theme days. One of these themes is Friday Features where I will feature Etsy artisians that make lovely things you might enjoy. To make it easy for me to remember what I have and have not featured, I'm going to go down the alphabet and pick items beginning with that letter. Since this is the first Friday Feature, these items begin with the letter A. Click on links for more information. Enjoy!

Thank you, thank you very much!

Since it's the last day of 2008, I want to take this chance to thank all of our readers and followers! I look forward every day to reading the comments left on my blog because you are just so dang sweet and so funny you give me many chuckles! I certainly appreciate your visits!

Awhile back I mentioned that Sadie does an Elvis impersonation by lifting her lip up on one side and leaning her head to the other when we come home and I've been trying to capture it on video. Because she moves so fast it's been nearly impossible. When we leave, Sadie sleeps on her own futon in her own room with a fan blowing on her so she sleeps very, very hard. One day we came home and woke her up with the video running and she didn't have time to wake up fully (notice the red eyes) so I sort of captured the Elvis impersonation before she had a chance to get up and run down the hall. Oh, and you can see her bent ear too which is what she also does on occasion and is cute also! Best enjoyed with sound but I apologize for the weird giggles!

Thanks again to all my readers, followers and commenters! I wish you all a happy and healthy 2009!

Warning to Kitties & Woofies - Squirrel ahead!

I know this post may be unsettling to certain dogs and cats out there but it's just too cute not to share! Awhile back I came across an Etsy shop called LittleOddMe and it initially caught my attention because she had photos around where she lived in Longmont, CO, which is where my husband and I worked for many years when we lived in nearby Loveland, CO. In addition to her landscape photos, her photography of critters is fabulous! She sells her photos on Etsy and also on 1000Markets so be sure to check out her beautiful work on both venues! Recently in her Etsy shop I found a bookmark made from this photo:
Isn't that squirrel adorable? I purchased the bookmark and received a note from Lori saying that she was going to donate the profits from my purchase to a local ferret shelter in her new home state of Connecticut! Of course I think that is absolutely wonderful! Lori has a ferret named Weezer and this video of him has got to be seen as it is too cute and it is sure to make you smile:

Told ya' you'd smile! Have a great Monday!
