I Etsy for the Animals!

The current EtsyBloggers Blog Carnival by StormyDesigns is a choice between the following:

1) Etsy. What made you open a shop on Etsy? What do you like about being a seller on Etsy? What don't you like?

2) What item from another sellers shop do you secretly wish you had thought of first?

In the summer of 2007, my mom and I were beading jewelry when we realized that we were making so many bracelets that we would either have to wear them from our wrists to our elbows or we needed to find an outlet to sell some of our creations. A look around my blog shows that I'm a huge animal lover and my mom is too so we quickly decided that we wanted to sell our jewelry and donate the proceeds to animal charities. At the time we didn't know how to go about doing this or where to even begin but a search for animal beads online took me to an Etsy shop for the very first time and after checking it out further we realized Etsy was where we wanted to set up shop. My mom lives in Las Vegas and I live in Oregon so it was difficult coordinating everything at first but we soon figured it out and BeadedTail opened the end of December 2007.

I like selling on Etsy because of the low fees and ease of use. Also, I'm a member of several teams and I really enjoy the support and friendship I get from my team members. The bad points of Etsy include that there are so many sellers that it's easy to get lost in their search features so advertising outside of Etsy is extremely important.

After a little over a year on Etsy, we have sold 40 items and donated over $450 to charity! We hope 2009 is an even better year and we both have plans of learning new things so look forward to our expanding product line in the coming months! We're making tails wag one bead at a time!

Spay Day is Tuesday, February 24th!

We want to let you know that Spay Day is coming up this Tuesday and although it's important to spay or neuter your pets any day of the year, to celebrate Spay Day there are many events supporting this cause throughout the United States and the World! As Angel demonstrates, kittens as well as puppies are adorable but by making sure that your pet can't have puppies or kittens, you'll have peace of mind that his or her offspring won't be euthanized in an animal shelter. Even if you do find homes for your pet's puppies or kittens, that means there are fewer homes available to take in other pets from shelters. Spay/neuter is the only permanent, 100-percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats.

So here is the information to help you find out more on Spay Day and events in your area:

What is Spay Day?
An annual campaign of The Humane Society of the United States to inspire people to save animal lives by spaying or neutering pets and feral cats.

Why is there a Spay Day?
Four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. Often these animals are the offspring of cherished family pets, even purebreds. Maybe someone's cat or dog got out just that one time or maybe the litter was intentional, but efforts to find enough good homes failed. Spay/neuter is the only permanent, 100-percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats and a proven way to reduce the vast numbers of animals who are born only to die prematurely and without a family who loves them.

Stroll with Sadie!

Okay, once again the blog has been going to the cats so I'm taking over today. Me and Mommy went on a walk last week through the trails in our neighborhood. Lately with Mommy working all the time doing taxes, we go for a walk in the dark and she won't go on these trails. Something about the bats flying around in the trees or creatures in the weeds. She's a scaredy cat - oops, no talk about cats today! Anyway, Mommy will go on these trails in the daylight but I'll watch out for critters just in case. There's nothing down here Mommy so let's go!

Mommy thinks it looks weird that ferns grown out of the moss on dead trees. I think it's weird that she is taking this picture.

Too many trails, not enough time.

Mommy was happy to see that the flowers are blooming already. I didn't even trample it either.

Even though the moon was out, we made it home before dark so Mommy didn't get scairt.

Happy Sunday everyone! We're going to enjoy the day relaxing and watching the Daytona 500 race. Our favorite driver, Mickey, didn't make the race this year because he came up a little short (get it? short! I crack myself up!).

Thankful Thursday!

We have recently received some pawsome gifts that we are very thankful for. Around Christmas, Mommy bought herself a present from Lily at TulipsTreasureBox that she thought was beautiful but we didn't think it was near as nice as the cool looking string Lily sent to us! It has blue and purple in it and has long hairs like I do!

Isabella loves playing with our cool string too!

On Monday a package came from Witchy at The Copper Cauldron with the handmade soap Mommy ordered (she has an addiction to handmade soap). But, included in Mommy's stash was a stash for us too! Toys with NIP called Dime Bags from BaileysBasics!

Witchy says her soap will "wash the wicked away" but the NIP she sent brought the wicked out of me!
