Trying Something New

Mommy is trying to step our of her comfort zone this year. When her talented, artsy friend asked her to go to an art journaling class she said yes despite her inner voice screaming no way Jose! It was even more intimidating when the class was taught by the lady who designed the journal they used...
It was very difficult for mommy to retain some semblance of order in the midst of the messy chaos that art journaling entails. The mat under their work was supposed to double as their paint palette. Mommy put her paint on a Christmas paper plate she brought. Notice the nice, neat paint puddles not touching...
The Media journal is unique in that it has different mediums as pages. These are two watercolor paper pages with a burlap page in the middle. An ivory card was taped in the middle too...
These are craft paper pages...
This one is canvas and the flowers are drawn on with Scribble Sticks...
The class was six hours long and Mommy was completely overwhelmed. Art journaling peeps speak a whole different language so three minutes into the class she gave up trying to understand what they were talking about. Dina did show the class Mommy's tulips as an example of an alternative to the faces the entire rest of the class was drawing on their canvases. After class was over, Mommy was asked what she thought. All she could say was she was overwhelmed. There was just too much for her left brain to process. She did enjoy spending the day with her friend and she also talked to Dina about her Ragamuffin kitties. She even showed her a picture of us and Dina said we were very cute! Anyway, we're glad it's Friday and all of us are looking forward to movie night tonight...
What's an example of how your peeps have stepped out of their comfort zone?

Happy weekend to you!
Angel

Wow, that looks really wild! My human is actually more about whipping her left brain into shape. Her right brain could totally just take over and often does... as you might gather if you saw her office!

I suppose it was a learning experience on several levels...the tulip page was pretty.

This would be something I wouldn't want to do. I'm not artsy a bit. That and I'd be horrible at this. I spent many years while working intentionally going out of my comfort zone. It made me far more well rounded and valuable to the team.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. We're having coffee on our boat this morning. Big hug to you and J and tons of scritches to the girls. ♥♥♥

I couldn't have done that class either. It is hard to step out of one's comfort zone. You all have a great day.

Wow, that was an amazing experience your Mom had! She did a wonderful job despite being overwhelmed. I tend to be very shy but lately I have been trying to be more social and enjoying activities in our new community.
Have a good weekend!

Art is such a good outlet. I'm glad you enjoyed it even though it was out of your comfort zone. Those tulips are very pretty

Even if it was overwhelming, it had to be a fun time with a good friend. We are very impressed with your Mom's work - ours would have walked out the door in less than those first three minutes:)

Your mom is very talented even if she doesn't think so. We're not exactly sure what journaling is, but we like what your mom came up with.

That is so beautiful, she did an amazing job. The last time I tried something new was yoga in 2014-yuck! :)

good for you! and some pretty awesome journaling!! I seem to always step out of my comfort zone when I meet up with my beady friends. I typically ask them to teach me something new, which normally comes with a needle stabbing event and some expletives!

Mom says that she'd never heard of art journaling. It looks very cool. Our mom would never survive a six-hour class. Mom and her friend (who moved away) did scrapbooking, and she really liked that. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

Belle is very into crocheting these day, or thinking about organizing my yarns! Although I never heard of "Art Journaling" I am going to look into it. I don't think any teacher expects everyone to have complete knowledge of what they are teaching in just a few hours; but as long as your Mommy takes away something from the class - then it was a successful venture!
I hope she let you watch "Secret Life of Pets" for movie night!
