Wednesday Wildlife

There were a few more critters that Mommy saw in Rocky Mountain National Park that we thought deserved a second look.  At first glance this little chipmunk is cute but look at the size of his feets...
Who knew female elk had such pretty eyes and such pearly whites...
This little guy was sleeking away...
Although he didn't do it with near as much finesse as a certain Tortie...
Does this remind you of somekitty?
Of course he has nothing on this floof...
There's wonders and familiarity all around us if we just happen to notice!

Hope you see something familiar in something new today!

Wednesday Wildlife

While in Colorado last week, Mommy went on a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park and saw that despite notices to not feed the wildlife, someone had given this little guy a cracker.  She told him it wasn't polite to eat with his mouth open...
Your mouth is still open buddy!
That's much better...
He sure is a cute little booger!  On the other side of the size scale, Mommy saw this guy and even heard him bugle since it's rut season....
Even though she and Daddy lived in Colorado for 12 years, she'd never heard an elk bugle but do you think she got it on video?  Nope.  *sigh*

Have you heard an elk bugle before?

We hope you have a wild kind of day!

Living the Wildlife!

Since we showed photos of big bald birdies yesterday, today we thought we'd show other kinds of wildlife that Mommy and Daddy saw up in Alaska.  They spent most of their vacation on a cruise ship and did see whales, porpoises and lots of sea birds but none sat still long enough for a good photo.  She did get a photo of these sea lions.  Can you spot two?
And of course there were bald eagles everywhere...
After the cruise ended in Seward, AK, they took a three day land tour which included a Tundra Wilderness Tour in Denali National Park & Preserve that promised lots of wildlife to be seen like bears and moose.  Yeah, well, there in there somewhere...
The first critter they spotted was an Artic ground squirrel.  Kinda looks like the non-artic chipmunks huh?
The snowshoe hare is pretty cute and sure has big floofy feets!  Of course in the winter time he'd be all white...
They even saw Willow Ptarmigan which are Alaska's state bird...
Finally as they got farther into the park they saw big critters like Dall sheep...
Usually they look like little white dots on the mountainside...
They did see lots and lots of caribou like this youngin'...
Despite being on the tour for 8 hours, they didn't see one bear or moose.  Daddy says they'll just have to go back sometime but we might have something to say about that!

What kind of wildlife do you have in your neck of the woods?

Enjoy your day!

PeeS:  All the park photos were taken from a bus since the only way to visit deep inside Denali National Park is via their buses.  It kinda made it hard to see the wildlife let alone get good photos of them but she did the best she could.  They were allowed to get off in designated areas but of course the only wildlife around those areas were tourists from other buses!

Sadieday Field Trip!

Yay it's Sadieday! Today we are going on something extremely rare during tax season, a field trip! Mommy gets one long weekend during tax season which is supposed to help her keep her sanity after long weeks of numbers but I really know it's for extra fun time with me! So without further ado, let's go!
We're going to check out a place I've never been before, a wildlife refuge. Since I don't know what wildlife we might encounter, I'll keep Mommy on her leash so she doesn't chase anything (although she's so tired she couldn't catch a turtle)...
Looks pretty safe so I let her off leash but I'll keep my eye out for anything she might chase...
The only thing I see right now is a really great view...
Here's a really great view too - ME!
I know we need to get going but before we go, I want to romp in the grass...
Okay, now that I've had my romp, I guess we can head home...
I'm glad you came along today!
I hope you had fun and be sure to explore new areas in your neck of the woods too!

Happy Sadieday!

AWBAR - Abandoned Wild Babies Animal Rescue

In addition to being a member of Etsy for Animals, I am also a member of Team AWBAR. AWBAR is located in Lockport, Illinois and is owned and operated by Amanda Smith. She rehabilitates ducks, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, rabbits, small birds and other small animals.

Relying solely on private donations, AWBAR is NOT a non for profit organization nor is AWBAR attached to any other organization. This is out of the pure love for animals.AWBAR is currently raising money to help offset the expenses of raising and releasing wildlife in 2008. Expenses include: food, shelter, and vet bills. In addition, AWBAR is raising money to help establish not-for-profit status.

You can read more about AWBAR by visiting the AWBAR website and the AWBAR blog.

Amanda has recently cared for baby raccoons that went through a parvo outbreak while in her care. She lost 13 due to the virus and saved many others. She works tirelessly to help the baby animals and her work is very appreciated.

The Etsy Angels team has chosen AWBAR as their August charity. Each member is either donating an item to the AWBAR Etsy shop or donating a percentage of their August sales. Be sure to check out the AWBAR blog for links to the shops of these wonderful, caring Etisans!
