We knew something was up when Mommy was stressed out all day long and then Daddy came home early from work. They're pretty easy to read. Anyway, sure enough a vet came to our house yesterday afternoon for our check ups and senior blood panel work. Daddy took me upstairs until Mommy said everything was ready. I certainly wasn't ready!
I found myself on our own kitchen counter with the vet and her tech! They tried buttering me up by telling me how beautiful my eyes and furs are and how soft I am. I kinda fell for it and didn't try to escape too much. Then I found myself on my side with the vet whispering in my ear while the tech stole my furs and then my bloods from my back leg...
I finally was released and ran downstairs to my safe spot while it was Isabella's turn. Of course she loved the attention...
I heard she squirmed and squeaked more than I did though. She's had more experience with vets than me so she knew what to expect. She's the reason we had a vet come to our house - she gets very car sick. Our old vet moved to a practice in a neighboring town and even though it's 10 miles away, that's 9.95 miles more than Isabella can handle. Anyway, we both checked out to be very healthy although one of us is a little too, uh, not svelte. Hopefully our bloods are healthy too. We'll find that out in a couple of days. *paws crossed*
Hope you have a good day!
Angel
Mommy here: I was worried that having a vet in the house would traumatize the cats, especially Angel. She did very well during the exam and came out from hiding just as soon as the vet was gone. Isabella is always fine although she really didn't like to be held down to have her leg shaved and blood taken. It's probably because she's had that done quite a bit because of all her dental work due to stomatitis. The house call fee was just $26 which is totally worth it not to have Isabella get car sick. The exam and lab fees were similar to a traditional vet fee so we're glad to have this option. If it's an option in your area, I would recommend it! Much less stress on the cats and on us!

That sounds like a good way to have a vet visit for most kitties - funny that Binga and Isabella are so alike in the ways they deal with the vet! Binga is actually going in tomorrow for a check up and routine senior blood panel. I don't know yet if I'm going with her for company - it depends on my human's boyfriend's schedule, since she prefers to have him along when more than one of us are going to the clinic.
Paws crossed for your blood work results, we hope you're both fit as fiddles!
There are no vets here who will come to your house, with the exception of one whose sole practice now is to help non-human companions to cross to the Bridge.
Glad that worked out for everyone. That would be a two week job for a vet to come here and treat the cats. It would take that long to catch all the cats. But it is a good idea. You all have a great day.
Hope you pass all your tests! Home vet visit sounds great - for the humans anyway.
Hope all is well! We do have the option of having a vet come to our house, but it's $$$ eventhough they don't have to drive very far...
I think a vet that makes house call for kitties would do very well indeed. They do hate the car. I've never had a cat that liked riding in a car. Glad all worked out well.
Have a purrfect day you two. My best to your wonderful peeps. ♥♥♥
I think you know that what the humans call the Round-Up when the vet visits once yearly for all our check-ups and vaccinations has been going on here for more years than the humans can even remember. Our vet charges $25 for the house call, but we always get a 10 percent multi-cat discount, which more than offsets that. But it wouldn't matter if that didn't happen. We totally agree that this is way better than the car trip. We are happy you girls now have this option. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo .
House calling vets are fairly common in my hometown because of all the horses! Plenty of people, like my mom, who own a horse don't even have a trailer, and trailering a horse for a checkup would be so impractical. Farriers also stop by to trim their hooves - I bet kitties wouldn't appreciate random strangers popping by to cut claws!
Wow only 26? Hose calls here are more like a extra 200. I know because when we helped Ms. Stella.... Anyway. It was worth it for that. Glad the girls are OK! Xoxo
Mom used to have a traveling vet but she married and sold her traveling practice.
We're glad the home vet visit worked out. We're surprised that they have to shave the leg to get blood. Our vet never does that.
We wish there was a vet around here that made house calls but there is none. :(
Sounds like it all went well. Hope everything comes back OK with the blood work.
hay ewe galz...if we had that servizz we wood use it for sure....we canna stand de car...well, we like ta get IN de car; just dont start drivin it we say.....we iz glad yur chex up wented sew well, 984 pawz crossed for grate ree portz next week ~~~~~~ ♥♥♥
we bee out til munday ~~~ heerz two a halfmoon fish kinda week oh end ~~~~~~~~ ♥♥♥
Being in the "city", no vet is very far away, so this is not really an issue for us. Although, the trip always feels a LOT longer than it really is.
I'm glad this worked out so well for you all!
That was a great deal. When I first had Joanie and Sammy, I had a vet come to the house because I was afraid they would think I was bringing them back to the shelter. It was a lot more than that even though it was 6 years ago.
Glad you all have a vet that makes house calls. Really much better fur kitties that gets carsick. Nana's Bibi gets carsick too but we don't has house call vet here -Katie Kitty Too
So glad it worked well for you! I had a home vet for one of my cats who got sick in the past. Haven't had to since but very thankful it's an option.
what a great idea! and glad the girls were ok with the vet visit
Praying that Angel and Isabelle have perfect results from their tests.
I wish they had something like that here - I think being in their own environment would make your little "fur babies" more comfortable for their check-ups. Last Spring when I took one of my kitty cats (her name was kitty) to the vet - they kept her for 4 days of which I received a bill of $2800 for the 1st day of tests. After the 4th day they wanted to put a feeding tube in her - of course they made me feel terrible when I told them I couldn't afford it- so I took her home to be with her sister (Belle) and within days - the enviable took place at a cost of another $800! So I am all for a home visiting doctor. Belle hasn't left my side since May!!! Hugs your kitty's for me.
