Oh, Isabella, our Julie commands the top of the stairs too so no cat can go up or down, or anywhere in the hallway without paying the price. But the price isn't a belly rub! We's rather pay a good belly rub than be whapped by a hard smacky paw.

Binga guards our stairs too, but she definitely does not want tummy rubs. I am actually not sure just what it is she wants.
Sammy guards the hallway. He definitely wants tummy rubs before he allows us to enter the main living area :)
Duke occasionally likes to guard the steps too. He finds it most effective to lay on one of the steps.
Our human definitely is willing to pay that price, Isabella! :-)
