Memories...

The current EtsyBloggers Blog Carnival hosted by TiLT Creations is a choice between the following:

1)Tell about your favorite birthday memory, gift or wish...
-OR-
2) Show & tell: Summer line - what you will be making/showing in your shop this summer...

My favorite birthday memory occurred many years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. For my 8th birthday, my parents decided I could get a puppy! It was to be a surprise so I wasn't told where my dad was taking me on my birthday but it was supposed to be a place that had puppies they were giving away. By the time we got there, however, there were no puppies left and I had also figured out what was going on. My dad knew that since I was now expecting a puppy for my birthday, he needed to do what he could to find me a puppy so he took me to the humane society to look around. I remember looking in all the cages and not seeing the perfect dog for me and then there was this one cage where a lady and her daughter were standing in front of discussing the dog inside. I waited patiently for them to move on and as soon as they did, this is what I saw...
I immediately knew I found my birthday present! I named her Spice since I had a cat Sugar at home already (get it? Sugar & Spice? What can I say, I was only 8 years old!). Spice was a wonderful dog who loved to go on car rides and loved to go boating with us. She also got along well with Sugar and the other cats who followed - Pepper and Mikey. Spice lived to be 18 years old and this is a picture of her in her later years.
Spice was certainly a special birthday present and I'll never forget her! Thanks for sharing the memories with me! I hope you have wonderful birthday memories too!

What a heartwarming story. Thank you for sharing it with us! I would have loved to have a dog when I was a kid, but our old home was too small. Spice was such an adorable puppy! I am so glad she got to spend 18 wonderful years with you.

What a great birthday present! He's a cute dog. I remember when I went to pick out my first dog--a friend of my dad's was giving away his puppies from his dog's litter. I picked Brownie--a collie/spaniel mix with a white tip on it's tail and the rest brown. (I was younger than 8)

This story brings tears to my eyes. Spice was a wonderful dog. I remember when it would snow, poor Spice's feet couldn't take the cold so we would have to shovel a spot in the yard and carry her out there to potty. There are many special memories when you have a furbaby that many years. Thanks for the memory Sharla.

Aw, how sweet! You totally reminded me of a birthday present I received at about the same age. I may have to blog about that one now, instead of the other topic like I planned!
